I guess i will give my opinion on this,
If dreams are the reality of the subconscious, then life is the dream of the conscious. This must be due to as above, so below. This being said the inner world (subconscious/microcosm) must correspond with the outer world (conscious/macrocosm). If one should change (as it works both ways) then the other will be made to reflect it.
Like two mirrors held together they reflect infinitely between each other each and every thing, thought, memory, ect... in existence. Where one side comes to veiw things differently the other will manifest that change reflecting it back.
I guess that is a better way to explain magic. Now with that in mind and applying the rule of doing without doing simply by knowing would best describe how to achieve success in magic, or at least in a primitive way describe the actual process of it.

As above, so below, to me is simply a rule of logic.
If one thing works like this, then it can be reasoned other things which are similar work like this also.
It is less a reflection to me and more an example just as blueprints for a house is very different from the house itself.
I think, the higher things are represented by our knowledge of the lower things in an equal manner, we may understand it perfectly but the paper will never be the same as the actual building rather merely an example of it.

Of course as above so below can be applied to anything. I was only expressing the process of magic as best i could. In my other post I was asked how i achieved making it rain by sora666 and this was my more thought out attempt at explaining how these things could/are done at least in my mind.
That's my point as well, like you said they are only examples of each other. In a dream we can do whatever we want in a moments notice though in life it is much more complicated and dragged out before we could achieve anything. Though both are similar in that nearly every occurrence in both aspects will cause a change to occur.
In a dream if we want powers we get them, in life we have to first accept that these powers are obtainable to begin with and then continually work towards achieving it. The powers are obtainable in both places and reflected between the two though constant changes are always present in life changing the reflection from strong to weak to having to not having, ect...
For instance with the rain thing i used a particular color for the meditation, however the more i did the meditation the more the color changed, the more i doubted its effectiveness the longer it took for the rain. until eventually i was no longer sure if i was just becoming insane or not and then i no longer do those meditations.
Reflection is just an easy concept to grasp, it puts things in a simpler place for me.

lol, I know sometimes i gotta go through like 3 or 4 names to sign in.
But yeah i put things up all over the place so it can reach the most people. That way it can be argued, or accepted. overall building it up to be more appropriate.
